Description: The future emperor Caligula (Malcolm McDowell) enters the fight for the throne of Rome with the tyrant Tiberius (Peter O’Toole), acting with flattery and cunning. The constant expectation of reprisal from Tiberius finally undermines the already fragile psyche of Caligula. He personally kills Tiberius and takes his place. Rampant life, senseless cruelty, unpredictability and mass confiscation of nobles’ property turn his former allies against Caligula, who plot against him and kill him at the very end of the film. The second storyline is the carnal love of Caligula and his sister. She dies shortly before the murder of Caligula himself. The vacated place of the emperor is occupied by Caligula’s uncle Claudius, who, according to the plot of the film, is a weak-minded and cowardly glutton, ready to submit to any influence.
